Xiang Yun Vegetarian Delight is the first vegetarian cafe in Penang. Usually, what we have in Penang are vegetarian restaurants, but very rare we could find vegetarian cafes. One of the first vegetarian cafes in Penang is Xiang Yun Vegetarian Delight. This is much to the delight of vegetarians who enjoy cafe-quality coffees and drinks to pair with their vegetarian meals.
There are 2 branches of Xiang Yun in Penang. The first branch is at Bukit Jambul while latest branch is located at Vantage Point at Tanjung Tokong, Penang.
Located on the first floor of Vantage Point, this cafe was cozy and relaxing.
There is also a breastfeeding-friendly private room for families with babies and young kids. The seating area is not too compact so making it very comfortable and spacious.
Teow Chew Steam – RM8.90, the “fish” was made from beans and seaweed and prepared in teow chew steam style with some tomatoes, sour plum, tofu and carrots.
It tasted just like a typical teow chew steam fish which was appetizing and healthy.
Indian Curry Rice – RM8.90, the curry was prepared with “fish”, served with okra, papadum, some veggie and a bowl of clear type soup.
The aroma of the spices filled the entire room. The spiciness level of this curry was average which I felt it was just nice.
Salsa Cutlet – RM16.90, similar to fish and chips, but instead of the usual tartar sauce, it was served with salsa sauce.
The portion of the “fish” was so generous and the salsa sauce tasted very appetizing. This is a nice dish that I would go back for it.
Supreme Carbonara – RM17.90, the spaghetti carbonara was prepared with wild mushrooms, garlic and white creamy sauce. Along with the pasta was “chicken breast meat” made of mushroom.
This dish was rich and very filling. I love the crunchiness of the fried “chicken” which tasted like real chicken to me.
Nasi Lemak – RM7.90
Hainan Chicken Rice – RM7.90
Vietnamese noodle – RM9.90
Bak Kut Teh -RM12.90
Soy Satay (大豆沙爹) – RM8.90
Five Herbs Vege Roll (五香素卷) – RM6.90
Chai Latte – RM9.90. This latte is not our regular coffee latte. Instead, it was prepared with chai tea leaves which had a very strong aroma.
Rooibos Tea RM13.90 per pot serving. Max 4 tea cups provided. Add on 1 teacup for RM2.
Regular Latte RM8.90 (h) RM9.90 (c)
* Add RM1 to upgrade to soy milk
Salted Caramel Latte – RM10.90 (h) 11.90 (c)
Soy Latte RM9.90 (h) 10.90 (c)
