My job requires me to travel frequently to outstation and I was also stationed out of town for some period. A quiet and peaceful weekend to spend with my family is a great weekend for me. Since Penang has many little cafe’s to offer for breakfast and coffee, I always hunt for a good place to have my Sunday breakfast/brunch with my family in town. There are a few nice places where we can have a quiet and cozy environment for breakfast. One of them is Via Pre Italian Restaurant.
Via Pre Italian Restaurant is known for its fine, authentic and exclusive Italian food. However, little did we know that this place also provides a reasonable and delightful breakfast everyday. Via Pre is very easy to be spotted. If you are driving from Penang Bridge to town area via Jelutong Expressway (a.k.a Jalan Tun Dr. Lim Chong Ewe), drive all the way down until you reach Penang Jetty. Just opposite the Jetty, you will see a heritage building with the signboard, Via Pre.
One thing nice about this place is its cozy environment where there are not many people to disturb your peaceful Sunday morning.
Check out its modern down lights around its modern-classical ambiance.
The breakfast starts at 10 am daily. The table menu displays “Daily Breakfast: fresh Croissant, toast, Bagel, Folded eggs, any fresh juice and coffee” with a price tag of RM18++ is actually very attractive. However, this is not the case. The listed items on the menu is actually available individually and not as a bundle. Each item is served with either coffee or juice and is priced differently. However, not all the items are served with tea or coffee.
Quiche with Coffee or Tea – RM12, the quiche tasted like chicken pie and it was served together with lettuces, olives and tomato slices.
The quiche was delicious and nutritious. I like this for my breakfast.
Toast Ham & Cheese with Coffee or Tea – RM19, in between the toasts were filled with ham and melted cheese. The toasts were perfectly toasted till crispy. Serving together with the toast were some lettuces, zucchini and olives.
No doubt the taste of this toast was quite nice, I still prefer the quiche which tasted more unique.
The selection of coffee or tea is available on the menu.
The cappuccino was thick and aromatic. It is one of the best I have ever had.
On the other hand, the latte was equally aromatic, if not better. It was served in a tall glass with 3 distinctive layers and sprinkled with pure cocoa powder. I would definitely return for its coffee.
Overall, the ambiance here was very cozy and quiet. The taste of the food was acceptable but the coffee was excellent. For the breakfast sets, some of the sets are still reasonably priced. There will be ample car parks available surrounding the restaurant on weekends compared to lunch or weekdays.
