Armenian Street, or Lebuh Armenian is a street in the inner city of George Town and within the core zone of the George Town Unesco World Heritage Site. It derives its name from an Armenian family who once stayed at the junction of the now Armenian Street and Beach Street in the early part of the 19th century. The street is the venue of the weekly Armenian Street Fair. It is not hard to locate this place, if you are using any GPS device or Waze, click here for the route.
Armenian Street is one of the busiest pedestrian streets in Penang. During weekends and public holidays, this place will be crowded with tourists and visitors and the entire street can only be accessed by walking or cycling.
There is a place along Armenian Street which is known as Armenian Suite. This is the place for travellers who are looking for affordable accommodation within the heritage site.
At Armenian Suite, other than providing accommodation and a place to hangout, you can also quench your thirst with some delicious desserts and beverages.
The place that provides mouth-watering desserts is TPF, also known as Tong Pak Fu. This shop is famous for serving Hong Kong desserts.
The cosy ambience of TPF is an ideal place to temporarily escape from the scorching sun after having fun at Armenian Street.
Varieties of desserts and drinks are sold at the counter for customers to grab and go.
Tracka Durian Snow Ice – RM15. The smell of durian could be felt from afar before the dessert was served on our table. The desserts from TPF are made from 100% fruit juice with no artificial flavouring and colouring. The shaved ice dessert was packed with durian flavour and it was accompanied with some side ingredients such as nata de coco, grass jelly, magic balls and sprinkled with some corn flakes.
In my personal opinion, RM15 for a bowl of snow ice is on the high side. However, I managed to get a good deal from CLAIMit for only RM8 per dessert. This is a great deal offered by CLAIMit as it is almost 47% discount from the original price. CLAIMit works just like any other discount website where you get to purchase attractive deals at hefty discounts.
Black Sesame Cream ( Chee Ma Wu) – RM6.90 where the black sesame is being fried, grounded and being cooked well in order to achieve a delighting thick and flavouring black sesame cream.
The taste of the cream was not too sweet and the black sesame aroma could be felt. The only drawback is the texture of this cream was slightly diluted. If it could be thicker it would be a perfect dessert. This bowl of black sesame cream was purchased without voucher, so the price is RM6.90 per bowl. It is a chef recommended hot dessert at Tong Pak Fu.
Overall, the desserts and drinks here are good although there is room for improvements. The price is also at the higher end if it is purchased without any coupons or vouchers.

My favourite place for a coffee in next door in Armenian House, I call in there every second day when holidaying in Penang. Very good coffee, served by people who know what makes a good cup. Very friendly & welcoming.
May I have the name of the coffee shop next door? 🙂
