There are a lot of Hainanese chicken rice stalls around town area. Therefore, it is not easy to find a really good Hainanese chicken rice stall. Sometimes the taste varies from one to another and it becomes hard to tell which is the authentic of Hainanese chicken rice. Having said so, there is one which has a very close taste to the original Hainanese style chicken rice.
This particular stall is located at Macalister Road, just opposite the Red Rock Hotel. It was introduced to me by Criz the food directory. Thong Lek Coffee Shop is famous with Super Lai Lai Bak Kut Teh at night. However, at lunch time this place is good for Hainanese Chicken Rice.
The stall has a variety of Hainanese-style chickens. Which includes steam chicken, roast chicken, barbecue pork and also roast pork. If you arrived around 11pm, you will see all the chickens and slices of pork hanging at the stall which make you mouth watery. Too bad, that time when I arrived was about 1pm, so most of the nice parts were sold out.
I have managed to order a plate of roast chicken as my lunch. A set of roast chicken/ steam chicken cost RM3.50 which comes with a bowl of bottom-less soup.
The roast chicken meat are propotionately cut into pieces and presented with lots of vegetables and dark soy sauce. The taste of the sauce is a bit sweet and the spring onions sprinkled on top has added more aroma to the chicken meat.
Trying not to follow the norm, this stall serves bean curd instead of cucumber as a side dish. The most important part of a successful and delicious chicken rice is not on the chicken or the rice, but the chili sauce. The chili sauce has a fresh taste of ginger, chili and garlic which I find it very “kick”.
Overall, Kowloon Hainan Chicken Rice stall serves great original taste of Hainanese chicken rice and the price is very reasonable as well. It is a place to be when you are craving for chicken rice in town area.

Ooh very nice, close and handy to my home in Penang too! Hmm, but I always like cucumber with my chicken rice though. Perfect with the kickin’ sauce!
