Variety is the keyword for Penang food. There are Penang food available in selection of culture, varieties of choice and also varieties in taste.
One of the places in town that sell varieties of Penang food is the New Lane hawkers center. The food here range from Hokkien Mee, Curry Mee, Char Hor Fun and Oh Jian. On top of these listing, the one that is rare to find and yet delicious is the Satay stall.
The Satay stall here is run by one lady, people here call her ‘Satay Auntie’. Satay auntie has been selling Satay for more than 30 years. She starts to sell Satay at Batu Maung and later only move to New Lane. No doubt she had moved from one place to another, she already been running her business here in New Lane for more then 10 years.
Satay (pork/ chicken/ liver/ intestine) – RM1.00 per stick. The price of RM1.00 per stick is slightly over priced. However, the taste of the satay is great and covered with the nice fragrance of coconut and turmeric. Another plus point is that there is very hard to find pork satay around.
The satay is well marinated with coconut milk, pounded turmeric, lemon grass and some sugar. The satay is barbecue on the charcoal and it is keep turning over until the satay is in golden brown color and smell nice.
Although the color of the barbecue satay is a bit dark, still the taste is nice and delicious.
Overall, the taste of the satay here is excellently good and there are not much place in town that serve pork satay. However, the price of the satay here is on the high side and the parking at surrounding are limited and expensive as well.

new lane’s our favourite hawker makan place! my friends love the pork innards porridge there which me no likey. i would prefer o jien and lo bak!

Hi Wong, you can try out the Perak Lane 1 and also the other 1 at Bangkok Lane. These few places are the one that with Pork. The rest is Halal 🙂
Constance Ant, the So So is not that so so if you realize there are only 3 stalls of Pork Satay available in Penang and New Lane is one of them.
