“Pilipala” sounds like the name of a song. In local Hokkien dialect, it also means that a person who is a chatterbox. Never would I imagine that a cafe actually exists with this name “Pilipala” which is located at Udini Square.
Pilipala cafe is located at the lower ground of Udini Square. This is a very simple yet cozy place, the food served here are mostly simple and healthy style. Perhaps the owner’s intention is to have those chatterboxes to come to this cafe to chat and at the same time be able to enjoy their coffee and food.
The express set lunch (11am – 2pm) here at Pilipala is quite reasonable and it is available every day including weekends. Each set is served with either hot or iced lemon tea. With an additional RM6, you can upgrade your drink to long black or latte.
Smoked Duck Poke – RM16.90, the rice was served with cherry tomatoes, seaweeds, cucumber, lettuces and topped with slices of smoked duck. The sauce for the main dish was either teriyaki or garlic mayo. The salad dressing was served in roasted sesame dressing.
The smoked duck slices were juicy and packed with smoky flavor. For this combination I chose garlic mayo which tasted nice and very appetizing. The sesame dressing sauce for the salad was aromatic and delightful. The dietary of this meal is well-balanced and it is a great option for health-conscious people.
Sriracha Salmon Poke – RM16.90, same ingredients as above, but instead of smoked duck slices it was served with sriracha salmon slices.
Sriracha is a chili sauce commonly used in Thai or Vietnamese dishes. The salmon slices were slightly spicy while the option of teriyaki sauce has overcome the spiciness. The combination of sriracha and teriyaki is something unique but unfortunately the spiciness could hardly be felt.
Ham & Cheese Croissant – RM12.90, served with ham and cheese stuffed in a croissant. It was then sided with lettuce, cherry tomatoes and tomatoes.
This is dedicated for those that “anti” rice and easy to eat while unable to access new challenges like garlic mayo or sriracha….etc.
Overall, this is a very cozy and nice place. It is just located at the lower ground of Udini Square. The food here is well-balanced and healthy. The daily set lunch is value for money. This is the cafe that I would visit again.
