Nasi 7 Benua, KooBoo Kafe – A Different Way to Express Asia

Nasi 7 (seven) benua is known as the “Seven Continents Rice”. Some people also refer it as “Seven-coloured Rice”.

It is not easy to locate this place. Although there are many blogs about this place and also there is Facebook page about Koo Boo Cafe, yet the direction and accuracy to get to this place is still challenging. It took me almost 30 minutes to get to this place.

To be precise, this place is located at the road side of Jalan Tun Dr Awang, which is the main road that leads to the airport. If you are heading to airport via this road, SPICE arena will be on your left and PISA Corner food court is on your right, keep driving for another 200 meters ahead and you will see a U-turn traffic light. Take the U-turn and drive back to the opposite direction. In about 80 meters there are a few small food stalls on your left, take the left turn and KooBoo Cafe is just around the corner.

The rice which are available for a plate are listed below:

  • Nasi Putih (White Rice)
  • Nasi Lemak (Coconut Milk Rice)
  • Nasi Tomato (Rice that cooked with Tomato)
  • Nasi Lamuni (Rice that cooked with Blue Pea Flower)
  • Nasi Minyak (Oily Rice)
  • Nasi Kacang (Rice cooked with beans)
  • Nasi Hujan Panas (Tropica Rain Rice)

As this type of dish is still very new in Penang therefore the queue is very long during lunch time.

The time used to prepare this food is long as each of the rice is placed in a small cup until all the seven rice is in place. I would suggest the shop owner to use some tools or change the method of scooping the rice to have a faster turnaround.

The plus point about this place is they provide iced lemon tea or hot tea free of charge to those who dine there. Apart from 7 types of rice, the dishes that accompanied the rice are almost similar to most of the Malay stalls.

Overall, the food here tasted good and the price is reasonable. The free drinks is a plus point to attract customers. The drawback of the place is the waiting time is too long and also the limited parking lots available in the area.
