Many people have mistaken that Miam Miam is under the same roof as Franco as both outlets offer almost the same food and drinks on their menu. In reality, they have no connection to each other in business terms and they are separate entities. A little bit of background on Miam Miam, it established its first outlet in Penang and then expanded to several outlets in Singapore. I still remember my first visit to Miam Miam was back in 2013.
My favorite back then was their famous Iced Matcha Latte with Softee and my favorite food was French Lobster Bisque Pasta. Until today, I still can remember the taste of these food as they tasted unique and delicious. These old favourites are still available at Miam Miam today, but it has also come out with a list of new and improvised menu to cater the need of diners.
The list of food and drinks are as below:
Salad:
Super Food Salad – RM15, quinoa, roasted root vegetables, lettuce and pomegranate vinaigrette. This is the bowl full of super food goodness. It is a healthy and balanced option for dieters and it tasted refreshing due to the good mix of greens and fruits.
Chicken Miso Salad – RM15, chicken breast, mix salad, carrot, croutons, miso dressing. This salad has an additional protein boost due to the chicken breast strips. The aroma of miso dressing and the chicken breast blended well but certain part of it was slightly on the salty side, perhaps due to the mixture of miso paste and the marination of the chicken breasts. My personal preference is still the super food salad.
Soup:
Mushroom soup, button, shiitake & abalone mushroom, truffle oil – RM15, although this might sound like a usual mushroom soup, however taste wise it is considered one of the best in Penang.
French country style, chicken broth, chicken breast, black pepper, herbs – RM15, packed with chicken broth flavour and filled with chicken breasts to enhance the taste and bite texture of the soup. This is not the usual cream of chicken soup but instead it is more of a French-style country soup. Think of French onion soup but with a chicken flavour.
Main:
One Egg Pasta – RM28, macaroni, minestrone, chicken breast, vegetables, cheese, Onsen egg. The half cooked egg in the middle and the abundance of cheese are something that make this dish attractive. The softness of the egg and the thick flavoring of cheese really gave this dish a punch of flavour.
Salted Egg Pasta with Grilled Barramundi Fish – RM36, salted egg, garlic, shimeiji mushroom, onions, barramundi. Apparently this is one of my favorite food here. I love the taste of the salted egg with pasta. It tasted very unique and outstanding especially when boosted with some curry leaves.
Barramundi On Rice – RM28, pan fried barramundi fish, donburi fried rice, julienne carrots & spring onions. The pan fried barramundi has the same style as the salted egg pasta. However, the combination of the fish fillet with donburi fried rice is not as good as compared with the salted egg pasta with baramundi.
Shogakayi Pork Rice – RM28, grilled minute pork fillets, donburi fried rice, julienne carrots and spring onions. The ginger grilled pork slices were really nice in taste where it blended very well with the donburi fried rice.
Riz Teriyaki – RM26. Teriyaki chicken pieces, leek, seaweed, Nippon sauce, shimeiji mushrooms. The rice was placed inside the single-serving pot and cooked with teriyaki chicken pieces, leek, seaweed, shimeiji mushrooms, sprinkle of sesame and some lightly salted gluten-free nippon sauce. The aroma of sesame really gave an appetizing temptation to try this dish. The nippon sauce and the teriyaki chicken on the other hand had a mildly sweet taste.
Riz Maim Miam – RM26. Bacon, shimeiji mushroom, tomatoes, egg plant, baby spinach, pork frankfurter, Onsen egg, Japanese chili flakes. This is one the signatures here. For meat lovers you will be able to taste each bite filled with bacon, pork frankfurter and egg. This dish is also cooked in an individual pot and served straight from the oven.
Desserts:
Valrhona Chocolate French Toast – RM22. Valrhona chocolate sauce & sea salt flakes french toast. The French toasts served with chocolate sauce and sea salt is something very unique. Surprisingly, chocolate and salt go very well together. You will be able to taste the sweetness from the chocolate and the saltiness from the sea salt in a single bite. Serving this with French toasts is a brilliant combination.
Pipelini (8 pieces) – RM18, mini puffs stuffed with a variety of cream or spreads including Nutella, passion fruit, peanut butter, blueberry, Strawberry and Matcha. Although there are 8 pieces in one set, the flavors are fixed and irreplaceable. Some of the flavours are repeated as they only have 6 flavours.
Salted Egg Soufflé Pancake – RM20. A symphony of texture and flavor, a dreamy combination of salted egg and vanilla, light , fluffy, crisp and moist, perfect. For those that love to try a different type of dessert instead of the usual sweet type, this is something for you to try. This dessert was made of salted egg which was not sweet while the soufflé had a vanilla fragrance and was lightly sweet. This is something unique and surprisingly it is one of my favourites.
Rum & Raisins Pancake – RM23, rum and golden raisins flavored pancakes, topped with vanilla softee, drizzled with beautiful rum & raisins syrup and finished with home-made chocolate fan. Rum and Raisin has become a rare flavour in major ice cream parlours due to its ingredients. It is very fortunate for us to find this is available at Miam Miam. They served this in softee form and accompanied with a thick slice of pancake. The sprinkle of raisins has further enhanced the appearance and taste of this dish.
Cherry Velvet Pancake – RM23, the fluffy pancake flavored with cocoa, stuffed with dark cherries, topped with vanilla softee, blueberries, almond tuile and raspberry sauces. The cherry and respberry sauce overwhelmed the flavor of cocoa flavored pancake, for those that love berries and cherries flavored this will be the best option.
Panna Cotta – RM15.00. this is a very basic pudding that is made of dairy thickened with gelatin. It originated in Italy and its name literally means “cooked cream”. Typically this is the dessert designed for strawberry lovers. However this is not the dessert for me as I don’t know how to appreciate berry-flavoured syrup.
Drinks:
Iced matcha tea with matcha softee – RM15.00, this drink is the balance mix of sweet and bitter. Its predecessor is the popular iced matcha latte which is sweeter than this current tea version. Both versions are still available at Miam Miam. The tea matcha is a very unique drink as most cafes are offering matcha latte instead.
MM special blend hot coffee – RM10.00. The unique blend of Miam Miam’s own selection coffee beans prepared using Japanese drip coffee pot in a consistent temperature. This is a thick-flavoured coffee with nice aroma that will keep you awake for the day.
MM special blend iced coffee – RM11.00. The iced version of the special blend coffee.
Limette noir – RM13.00, Soda water, lime juice, mint leaves, and brown sugar syrup. A refreshing and the appetizing drink to kick start the meal. It was minty and sourish at the same time. The brown sugar, apparently also known as “Gula Melaka” added a nice fragrance to the drink.
Hot Chocolate – RM11.00, the hot chocolate is sure to delight the kids as there were colourful marshmallows on it. The taste of the chocolate was very rich but not too sweet.
Iced Chocolate Milk – RM12.00, this is the iced version of the hot chocolate. Instead of marshmallows, the drink was topped with fresh cream.
Fresh fruit tea -rm15 (hot), rm16 (cold). Fruity and orangy taste. It tasted like a kamquat drink which was sweet and sour with a tad of bitterness. A very nutritious drink to quench thirst on a hot day.
Overall, the place is a great place to hangout and heal your tummy after a whole day of retail therapy. There are many private car parks available in the complex. The price could be slightly on the high side but if you are looking for good environment and good food, price should not be a concern as the food is of high quality with generous portion.
