“Merry Me” can be easily resembled as “Marry Me”. But the actual intention of using the name “Merry Me” still remains a mystery. It could be the ideal location for young couples who are planning on a marriage proposal or could serve as a family and friends gathering spot. Most importantly, the desserts at Merry Me are something unique and “Instagrammable”. Merry Me currently has 3 outlets in Penang located at Gurney Paragon, Autocity and Lebuh Victoria respectively.
Unicorn plush toys can be found at the entrance of the shop at Gurney Paragon. It seems to be the trademark for Merry Me. So the name “Merry me” could also be taken from the “Merry Go Round” ride.
Merry Me is transforming the usual ice cream into some beautiful and delicious creations.
Affogato with Signature Gula Melaka Ice Cream – RM13, the gula melaka flavored ice cream was placed on top of a thin and crispy waffle with a cup of hot espresso.
For coffee lovers like myself, this is a must-order. The combination of sweet and bitter in an affogato has never failed me.
To enjoy this delicacy, you have to break the thin waffle into pieces for the ice cream and waffle to be inside the bowl, then pour over it with the hot espresso. The aroma of coffee was strong while the sweet and creamy ice cream blended perfectly with the bitter affogato.
Fusion Ice – RM17, one of the popular creations of Merry Me is the Fusion Ice. The ice cream was served with cookies and macaron and jelly-like balls. The highlight was the nitrogen that came together with it which created some “pool cloud” when served.
Fluffy Waffles with Banana Brulee – RM22 (Selection of 2 ice cream as below)
- Cookies & Cream Salted Egg
- Dark Chocolate
The charcoal-flavoured waffle was fluffy and crunchy. This creation came with 2 slices of caramelized banana and it reminds me of banana split that we used to love. The flavours of ice cream can be chosen from the menu and we had the cookies and cream salted egg and dark chocolate. Surprisingly, the feeling of salted egg in an ice cream was not too heavy and instead it had a pleasant taste with a slightly sandy texture.
Very Berry Croffle – RM23, specially dedicated to berry lovers. The whole creation was covered with berries such as fresh strawberries and blueberries, berry jam and berry-flavored ice cream.
Although I am not a berry-lover, the use of fresh fruits made it taste so refreshing and healthy.
Homemade Cone – RM9, this is a single cone served with an ice cream of your choice.
For those that love single and plain ice cream, this is a great choice. The ice cream was served on a homemade cone with no fancy sides or creations which is perfect to be eaten on the go.
Overall, this is the place for dessert lovers and a cozy place to hang out at. To me, my favourite creation is their affogato. The cookies and cream salted egg flavour is also a must-try. Another plus point is the ice cream serving is quite generous. For the creativity and concept, you will pay slightly higher for it, but it is still at the acceptable range.
