Macallum Connoisseurs has been the talk of town recently. It is known to be the biggest and newest cafe in Penang. The cafe looks like it has been converted from a warehouse to a new and modern cafe.
If you are driving along Lebuhraya Lim Chong Ewe (Jelutong Express), the location of Macallum Connoisseurs is just at the junction of this Highway with Gat Lebuh Macallum.
This place is so big and it feels like dining in a warehouse.
Even the barista counter is so huge that it can easily fit more than 5 staffs.
The cafe is able to cater up to 100 customers. Due to the huge capacity of this place many people thronged the cafe but ended with disappointment due to the long waiting time. Another point to note is due to being seated for too long, the mosquitoes have also become close friends with the customers.
Macallum’s Breakfast – RM18. Sunny Side Up, Avocado, Chicken Frankfurter, Chicken Bacon, Grilled Capsicum, Baked Potatoes served with Macallum House Bread and Salad. The chicken bacon was nice and the avocado jam blended very well with the bread. However, this breakfast set is priced at RM18 excluding drinks which I find it to be on the expensive side.
It’s A Green Day Breakfast – RM20. Vegetarian Platter with Avocado, baked beans, scrambled eggs, portobello mushrooms, cherry tomatoes and salad. This dish is specially dedicated to vegetarians and dietary person. The drawback is again the price which is on the higher side.
Egg Benedict – RM18, Macallum House Bread served with Poached Eggs, Avacado and Hollandaise Dressing. 2 poached eggs with salad and avacado paste with RM18. I am still unable to accept why the price is so high for these dishes? What is so special about this dish other than the avocado paste and Egg Benedict which seem to be a little unique than the normal breakfast set?
Overall, the place here is huge. Parking is not a concern here as there are plentiful of car parks around the cafe. However, the drawback of this place is the waiting time for the food to be served is 40 minutes per dish and there are a lot of mosquitoes in the cafe. Also the price for average breakfast sets are on the high side.
