I couldn’t recall when was the last time my uncle brought me to this place. It was back during my childhood days. I was here once before the building was left abandoned for ages. I could still remember last time at the middle of the restaurant there was a sky well and the place was famous with dating couples and matchmaking. This place really gives a nostalgic memory to some. For those who had been staying in Penang for a very long time will more or less have some good old memories about this place.
After being abandoned for long, Loke Thye Kee is now re-open with a brand new look. The structure and the facade of the building still remains its old charm. The only thing that is different is the sky well of this place has been covered with air conditioning.

All the dishes served at Loke Thye Kee Restaurant are pork-free and prepared by Chef Azlin, Chef Lim and Chef Effendy. The food are prepared fresh daily and mainly focusing on Malaysian cuisine. The restaurant is currently applying for halal certification.
Loke Thye Kee Bar is located at the rooftop which has been transformed into an outdoor bar. The bar is simply a nice space to relax, chill and unwind with a 360º view of George Town. There is a decent selection of wine, beer, bar snacks and cakes.

Overall, the new Loke Thye Kee now serves Malaysian cuisine compared to the previous Loke Thye Kee which was mainly on Hainanese dishes. The taste and price of the food here are acceptable. The service and the ambiance are good. The only drawback is there are limited parking slots nearby. The nearest parking slots is quite a walking distance from the restaurant.
