One of the places to get good food especially for those staying in Bayan Baru and Bayan Lepas area is at The One Avenue. There are many choices available and for your information, dining there during weekend lunch hours is not that congested compared to weekdays.
Ki No Me Japanese Restaurant, is one of the many restaurants at The One Avenue. Ki No Me is a very small and humble restaurant which is run by a nice lady boss. At first glance, I thought the lady boss is a Japanese until I was told that she used to work with Japanese for a long period and that could be why she has embraced the humbleness and politeness from the people of Land of the Rising Sun.
It is not hard to locate Ki No Me. If you are driving from town via Jalan Mayang Pasir, you will come to a traffic light junction that will turn in to Persiaran Mahsuri. Keep driving and after 2 traffic light junctions make a U turn at the second traffic light, The One is located 100 meters on the left Make a left and right turn and drive another 20 meters, Ki No Me will be on your right.
The cosy and homey ambience has a welcoming feel to toddlers as well.
Set Lunch:
Saba Shioyaki – RM14, grilled mackerel fish served with shredded white radish, a slice of fresh lemon, salad, miso soup and rice.
A very simple and delightful lunch set. The mackerel fish was very fresh. It was lightly marinated with salt and brought to grill. The dish went really well with shredded radish and lemon juice. It is really amazing that a simple dish like this could be so satisfying. For those looking for a healthier lunch option, this would be a great set lunch.
Chicken Kuwayaki – RM16, teppanyaki chicken with sweet sauce sprinkled with white sesame. Serving together with it was miso soup, salad and rice.
The chicken slices were packed with barbecue flavour and tasted very juicy. It mixed well with the Japanese sweet sauce.
Set Meal that Available for Lunch and Dinner:
Matsubana Bento – RM26, grilled sliced beef or chicken, grilled mackerel fish, okra, baby octopus, salad, tamago, chawanmushi and miso soup.
The mackerel was grilled with salt and it tasted simple and nice. This style of preparation for the mackerel fish is the same as Saba Syioyaki set lunch above.
It is always a good idea to have bento set as we get to taste a variety of dishes in a set. For this bento, other than mackerel fish, there were teppanyaki beef slices or chicken slices to complete the bento.
Accompanying the bento was also a cup of steamed egg custard or Chawanmushi. It contained some crab stick slices and ginko. It tasted soft and smooth.
All the dishes will end with either some fruits of jelly.
One thing that made me wanted to go back to this place again is the good service provided in this restaurant. The food was good and price was also reasonable. The drawback here is the parking slots which are usually insufficient during peak hours.
