Hong Kong Style Duck Rice @ Jit Seng, Lebuh Carnarvon

There are many duck rice stalls around the corner in Penang, but only few of them are providing really good ones. I have previously introduced Taman Lip Sin Duck Rice and also Sin Kek Seng Duck Rice. Other than these 2 places, there is another one which I have always wanted to blog about, which it the Jit Seng Hong Kong Style Duck Rice.

I have been dining at this coffee shop since 5 years ago and have wanted to blog about it. However, everytime when I passed by the roast ducks were almost finished. Few weeks ago I decided to try my luck again and I arrived at 1pm for my lunch. By that time there were already many people queuing up for take-aways and waiting at the coffee shop to be served. The amazing thing was, all the people were waiting with great patience.

The owner, Mr. Lam was consistently chopping and preparing for the duck rice for 4 hours. Just imagine, over 20 of whole ducks were gone from the hangers in 4 hours! It is simply amazing.

The presentation of the food is not as great as the ducks are served in big chunks on the plate. However, don’t judge a book by its cover. The taste of the duck meat is nothing that you can find in anywhere else. While the roast duck skin is crunchy the meat is also tender and juicy. You could even taste there is a slight fragrance on the meat. I believed the ducks are being stuffed with some herbal leaves before roasting them. If you are the type who likes to dip anything with sauce then you should not miss the special sweet bean sauce which is served together with the roast duck. The meat are in a generous portion that you will never cry for not having enough.  You could also pre-order by contact him for takeaway. The Roast Duck costs RM36-38, Roast Chicken at RM18 and Roast Pork or Char Siew at RM35 per kg.

At a price of RM16, you may get the all-in-one for 2 people which includes barbecue pork, roast pork and also roast duck. This comes to only RM8 per person which is considered quite reasonable.

  1. The duck meat is tender and tasty. Go for the free soup that they serve, usually the choy kun tong (dried preserved vegetable soup) and lou wong kua (old cucumber soup).

  2. Steven,

Ah Pui’s roast duck are dead cheap! It normally cost two of us around RM15 to 18 for lunch, our normal orders are roast duck, roast pork and char siew mix plater. But remember to tell him to give the best duck and right cut, if not then he will simply for you. His roast pork and char siew are quite good too, but do be there early or they will be sold out.

  3. I wanna go ta pao also next time! Er….can I comment about other things uh?! Hmm…the flower falling down …doesn’t match StevenGoh leh!!!!! Wahahaha! 🙂
