If you are a pork lover, Hakka Dish is the food that you should not miss out. Most of the Hakka food consists of pork ingredients. I personally love pork, especially minced pork meat, pork ribs or ‘Pai Kut Ong’ and Barbecue pork slices.
Hakka food is now commonly available in chain restaurants. One of them is Hakka Tree which is located at the lower ground level of Gurney Plaza.
Hakka Tree at Gurney Plaza is a small and cosy restaurant. They can only cater for not more than 60 pax. Therefore, to avoid long queue, you need to be there either much earlier than usual lunch hours or tea time.
You can find many colourful traditional umbrellas with printed flowers hanging down from the ceiling which created a warm and welcoming ambiance.
Each Hakka dish will be accompanied by a small bowl of home made chili sauce. The contents of the chili included of blended chili, ginger, parsley, onion, vinegar and some sugar.
Hakka Noodle with Salted Fish Cakes – RM10.90, the noodle was prepared with 2 slices of salted fish cakes, marinated minced meat, some spring onion and a bowl of radish soup.
The taste of the noddle mixed well with the minced meat. The salted fish cake tasted not too salty and was delicious. For those who find the noodle is too dry, you can always add in the radish soup to moist up the dish.
Pai Kut Ong Noodle – RM14.90, the noodle was stir-fried with homemade sauce and scrambled egg. It was then served with a few slices of ‘Pai Kut Ong’ pan fried battered pork slices which had been mixed with homemade barbecue sauce. The noodle was served with slices of tomato, cucumber and some veggie as sides and a bowl of radish soup.
I personally prefer the fried version compared to the first one as the bite of the noodle was more springy with the aroma of pan fried. However, the taste of the pork slices was just like the normal and regular one like others.
Signature Fried Rice – RM12.80, the fried rice was mixed with chopped Chinese sausages, pork slices, chopped long beans and scrambled eggs. It was then topped with some spring onion and some salad beside.
The pan fried aroma of this dish was nice and the crunchiness of long beans blended well with the Chinese sausages. It tasted even better with a touch of their homemade chili sauce.
Dried ‘Koay Teow’ and Yong Tau Foo – RM12.90, the dried koay teow was served with minced meat, topped with bean sprouts and spring onions. Besides that, there was a bowl of yong tau foo soup consisted of tofu, bitter gourd, eggplant chili and lady’s finger which had been stuffed with fish cakes and meat patty.
This is the signature of Hakka dish and it is very common and sold everywhere. The yong tau foo here was quite standard and nothing to shout about.
‘Mo Yee San’ Herbal Tea with Egg (Hot) – RM4.90, the Chinese herbal tea that had been cooked together with an egg.
The taste of the tea was not bitter at all and tasted slightly sweet. It is a unique and signature Hakka drink.
Fu Chuk Yee Mai – RM4.90, the dried bean curd sheets were cooked until soft with soy milk, barley and gingko.
The soy milk was not too sweet. The gingko, barley and dried bean curd were well-blended. It was a delightful dessert.
Chrysanthemum (Cold) – RM2.90, the cold drink cooked with chrysanthemum flowers.
The usual drink to quench thirst on a hot day.
Overall, the food and service here are acceptable, there are plentiful of parking slots inside the mall. The only catch here is you need to avoid dining here during peak hours. The best is to call-in for reservation to avoid the unwanted hassle.

The last time i had my meal here wasn’t a pleasant dining experience, the YTF was way too oily to my liking and yea, nothing to shout over in terms of taste.
