One of the latest hit in town is Fuku Eatery @ Mano Plus along Beach Street in Penang. It boasts a simplicity and contemporary lifestyle concept with a strong modern Japanese theme.
Fuku is one of the newest cafes in town that not only serves simple but nice Japanese-infused food, but also linked to a lifestyle concept store known as Mano Plus which sells some urban concept products.
Fuku @ Mano Plus is housed within the proximity of Penang UNESCO Heritage area.
The cafe was very cozy, but due to its popularity it was always packed with diners and visitors. If you would like to visit this place, you will need to have patience or be there on off-peak hours to beat the crowd.
Unagi Omurice – RM22, Pumpkin & raisin fried rice topped with Japanese omelette and grilled unagi, ebiko and nori flakes.
The unagi was pan fried until golden crisp and full of pan aroma, it was then covered with teriyaki sauce and Japanese omelette. One of the highlights that captured my attention was the rice was fried with pumpkin and raisin that made it taste naturally sweet and unique.
Oyakudon – RM13, Japanese rice served with chicken cubes, egg, scallion, onions
This is a typical “Mother and Child” dish which is suitable for kids as it contains egg and chicken which are neither spicy nor oily.
Smoked Duck Ramen – RM14, Dry ramen topped with halved egg, sauteed mushrooms, tempura bits, steamed corn, spring onions and nori.
The smoked duck ramen was one of my favorites. The tenderness of the smoked duck was just right and it tasted juicy with a slight of saltiness. It was generally a healthier option with the right balance of meat, vegetables and carbohydrates. The only drawback is the portion is too small even though I am not a big eater.
For those who want to make your meal into a set, you will need to top up with just RM3 to get a bowl of miso soup and free flow of Japanese green tea.
Below is menu:
Overall, the food here was nice. This place is great for family and friends. The only drawback is the portion of the food here is too small and not sufficient for a regular adult. The seating area to accommodate diners is also quite limited.
