Usually a good dining place with great food and nice ambience will be pricey or else the whole place will be packed with guests. It is very hard to find a great dining place which is reasonably priced and has the quality of service and peaceful surrounding, unless that place is very new or it is located very remote from the city. Therefore, it is my duty to introduce you with all the great new places in town that give you the first hand infomation to avoid all the hassle while you enjoy the food and environment.
Louis Cafe at Argyll Road is one new western cuisine restaurant that started their business 2 months ago. This place is at the middle of the town area, most importantly there are a lot of parking lots infront of the restaurant and also this restaurant allows BYO (Bring Your Own Wine) without corkage charge at this moment.
Louis Cafe has two levels of dining area which caters for different environment preference. For those who prefer more crowded ambience you may choose ground floor. Otherwise, if you want to enjoy a quiet moment with your loved ones, you should op for first level dining area.
Other than the ambience, the restaurant serves fusion western food at reasonable price. Below are the ala carte and some of the set lunch.
Appetiser:
- Caesar Salad with Smoked Salmon – RM18
- Our House Rules Organic Garden Greens – RM15
- Scallops with Apple Salsa – RM20
Personally I love Caesar Salad with Smoked Salmon as appetiser. This is due to the generous amount of smoked salmon, anchovies fillet, grated parmesan cheese, herbs croutons and bacon bits mixed with appetising sour dressing.
Soups:
- Wild Mushroom Soup – RM10
- Pumpkin Soup – RM9
- Cream of broccoli – RM9
- Cream of cauliflower – RM9
- Cream of tomato – RM9
As for the soup, the most appetising are the cream of tomato and pumpkin soup. The texture of the soups is very fine, if they added some bits of pumpkin to the pumpkin soup or slices of mushrooms to the mushroom soup the taste will be even divine.
Main Course:
- Vegetarian Cutlet (not in the menu) – RM15.90
- Fish Gordon Bleu – RM25
- Sirloin Steak with red wine sauce – RM28
- Beef tenderloin with peppercorn sauce – RM38
- Red Snapper with cream of tomato pulp – RM25
- Pan seared salmon steak – RM30
- Grilled Lamb Chop with brown mushroom sauce – RM22
- Spaghetti Arrabiata – RM16
- Fettucine Carbonara – RM16
- Chicken tortilla (not in the menu) – RM15.90
- Baked stuffed chicken – RM20
If you are a steak lover like me, Sirloin Steak with red wine sauce will be an excellent option. The combination of the gravy with brown sauce and red wine as well as the tenderness of the meat are well-blended together. If you love the softness of the meat you can always request the steak to be served in medium-rare.
For the veggie lovers, Vegetarian Cutlet is always the wise choice. The main ingredients for the cutlet are potatoes, brocollies, carrots and corns which gives you a nutricious and healthy meal.
Dessert and Drink:
- Bird Nest – RM45
- White Fungus with Ginko – RM5
- Herbal Snow Jelly – RM10
For ladies who are conscious of their complexion, these are the desserts you should be looking for. All the above desserts are traditionally said to be good for the skin. I tried the white fungus with ginko and it is not too sweet and should suit many ladies who are also sugar-conscious.
The picture below shows the Chefs and the owner who operate this restaurant. The main chef, Chris Tan (in Blue) and also the lady owner Ms. Teoh (first from right) were happy enough to cook us this wonderful meal.
Overall, Louis Cafe is the place for nice western food and ambience at a very attractive price. For those who are looking for place to dine this coming Valentine, the Valentine package is RM49.50 per person, which is RM99 per couple. In Chinese the number ’99’ means longevity.
