The first thing that is always in my mind when think about Evergreen Laurel Hotel is the exclusive and extensive first class accommodation rather than their delicious and indulging meal at their cafe. My perception of the food at Evergreen Laurel hotel has changed after this visit to its newly renovated Cafe.
The layout and the setting of the cafe has been revamped. Besides the uplifted cafe, the menu of the food has also been improvised.
The re-opening promotion of the Cafe Laurel is shown as below:

INTERNATIONAL BUFFET MENU (SUNDAY)
Salad
- Thai Chicken Salad
- Thai Papaya Salad / Dry Cuttlefish Salad
- 8 Types of Plain Salad
With the options of salad, the one that I really love is the papaya and mango salad. I find that the Thai style salad was very spicy and sourish where it tasted like one of those back in Thailand.
Cold Selection
- Assorted Cold Cuts
- Seafood on Ice
- Smoked Fish
- Beef Pastrami
- Marinated Baby Octopus
For the cold selection, my pick would be the fresh prawns and the salmon sashimi. For those that love spicy sambal, it matched rerally well with the assorted cold cuts.
Soup
- Seafood Tom Yam Soup
- Crispy Bread Roll & Butter
- Chicken Cream Soup
For those that love to try new food and accept challenges like myself, do try out the seafood tomyam soup with the bread bun, the combination is surprisingly good.
Action Stall
- Sashimi with Condiments /Sushi
- Ikan Panggang
- Char Koay Teow
- Roasted Duck
- Mix Grill (Jumbo Sausage, Lamb Chop)
- Pasta Station
- Laksa with Condiments
- Assorted Dim Sum
The char koay teow here is one of the highlights here. Reason being is that, although the koay teow was prepared using electric stove rather than the traditional gas stove, the flavour and taste of the koay teow can still be maintained.
Main Dishes
- Roasted Lamb Leg
- PanFried Fish Cream Sauce
- Chicken Roll with Thyme Sauce
- Stir Fried Prawn
- Mix Vegetables
- Sambal Ikan Bawal
- Gulai Kambing
- Mee Goreng Mamak
- Rendang Ayam
- Nasi Minyak
- Paceri Nenas
- Steamed White Rice
For the main selection, the sambal kambing and the rendang ayam really reminded me the taste of “makcik” cooking in those days.
Dessert
- Assorted Mini French Pastries / Freshly Cut Tropical Fruits
- Cream Caramel / Profiteroles with Chocolate Sauce
- Bread & Butter Pudding / Crème Brulee
- Chocolate Mousse / Fruit Cocktail
- Ice Cream with Condiments
Most of the dessert tasted great, especially when the sweetness of the desserts is under control. Although I am not a fan of sweet desserts, the bread & butter pudding and the Crème Brulee are my top choice that I really enjoy in this buffet.
Coffee & Tea
Overall, the food here is nice with reasonable of choices. The dessert is excellent where the chef knows the current market taste. The hotel provides free parking in the hotel if you dine at the Cafe. The price is reasonable compared to a lot of buffets in other hotels.
