Time flies, it’s the time of Ramadan again. As usual, E & O Hotel has come out with an exciting Ramadan buffet to cater the need of Muslim diners during this holy month.
This year, the Ramadan Buffet at E & O Hotel, Sarkies is not just a regular Jamuan Berbuka Puasa. Instead, it has added more local delicacies that makes it a truly Malaysian berbuka puasa buffet spread.
The delicacies list are as below:
Appetizer
- Kerabu ayam manga muda
- Kerabu tauge ikan bilis
- Kerabu kacang botol
- Kerabu udang pucuk selom
- Kerabu sotong betik muda
Among the list of appetizers listed above, my personal favorite is the Kerabu Kacang Botol where it was served with delicious sambal which was spicy with a fragrance of shrimp paste.
Ulam Corner
- Ulam raja, ulam selom, ulam gajus, petai, timun, kacang panjang, kacang botol,
- Ulam pegaga, tomato, jantung pisang,
- Sambal cincaluk, sambal budu, air asam, sambal balacan, sambal manga, sambal tomato.
Ulam Raja is one of the most famous types of Ulam. My usual ulam will be a mixture of each of every vegetable with some sambal belacan and sambal manga. Although the spiciness and the strong smell could be too overwhelming for some, I personally prefer this combination of Ulam.
Hot Dishes
- Nasi Putih
- Nasi briyani ayam
- Rendang daging
- Ayam Masak merah
- Kurma kambing
- Sambal udang petai
- Masak lemak ikan masin
- Sotong masak kicap
- Sayur Iodeh
Every year without fail, the rendang daging gives the deepest impression among the many hot dishes. Trust me you will go for second round helping of this rendang daging once you have tasted it.
Ramadhan Special
- Special nasi lemak cake
- Pulut kuning dengan serunding ayam
The display of nasi lemak has been made like a “cake”. The sambal of the nasi lemak was good. The only drawback was the peanut was a bit soft, perhaps due to long hours of exposure under the air-conditioning. This could also be the reason that caused the rice to be on the dry side.
Soup Station
- Soto ayam berempah
Grilling Station
- Ayam tandoori
- Kambing bakar berempah
- Daging panggang kuah percik
For those who love to eat mutton, kambing bakar berempah is one of the signatures here. This is the grilled mutton with herbs. The mixture of herbs managed to cover up the mutton odor.
Action Stall
- Shawarma ayam
- Ikan asam pedas
The ikan asam pedas tasted like Hainanese style spicy and sourish curry fish. I love this dish as this reminded me of a homecooked dish.
Desserts:
- Bubur pulut hitam
- Kurma
- Kuih-kuih Melayu
- Selected juices
Overall, the varieties and food here are well covered. You can find both local and international cuisines here. For this year, the emphasis is more on the local cuisine.
