A lot of times, people had been asking me for place that serves halal food and yet it needs to be air-conditioned and stylish? Now there is a place in town that suits the above criterias. The name of this place is called D’Dapor Express.
Direction to D’Dapor is simple, if you are heading to town area via Beach Street, just before arriving the clock tower, you will see a junction that leads to Maybank Georgetown Branch, the name of that road is Lebuh Union. D’Dapor Express is on Logan Heritage Building that is just before Maybank Georgetown branch.
For those who are looking for valuable lunch or dinner, they have special set promotions which will suit your requirement.
The interior decoration of this place is very classic. There are many old time pictures of Penang hanging on the walls of the restaurant.
The dining area is able to cater for 120 pax at 1 time.
Promotion for the month of June is RM19.90 for 3 dishes as shown below (cater for 3 – 4 pax). However, this deal is provided by everyday.com.my. You will need to purchase the voucher from everyday.com.my and you will be entitled to this promotion.
For those that purchase ala carte, the dishes below are priced individually. Famous Kari Kepala Ikan – RM38.00, A hot favorite among locals. Fish head cooked with curry spices, chili, onions and tamarind sauce in coconut milk and served with egg plant, ladies finger and tomato. The taste of the curry was thick, spicy and sour. It was very delicious and appetizing. One of the signature dishes at this restaurant.
Kailan with mushroom – RM8.80, pan-fried kailan, carrot, mushroom, garlic and onion,. It was then touched up with coriander. This dish is catered for everyone in the family, no matter young or old.
Telur Bawang – RM6.50, the eggs were fried together with onion and finished with fried onion flakes. The taste of this dish was acceptable and very homely feeling.
For those that purchased RM19.90 from the previous promotion, you are also entitled to the below additional promotion which is also catered for 3 – 4 pax. This deal is also available from everyday.com.my
Again for those who are not looking for promotion, the usual price is as below.
Udang Buluh Perindu – RM18.00, The prawns were cooked in sourish and spicy curry. They were cooked together with carrot, tomato, spring onion and chili, and sided with slices of carrot and cabbage as salad. The taste of the curry was the usual crab curry type. However the prawns were fresh and overall the dish was very nice.
Ayam pandan – RM12.80, the small pieces of chicken were marinated with ginger, turmeric, onions and garlic, then wrapped in pandan leaf and deep fried. However, the pandan flavour did not manage to blend in to the chicken and the taste was very normal. There is still room for improvement for this dish.
Kari Ketam – RM25.00, the curry of this crab was sour and spicy. It was cooked with pineapple and coconut milk. The taste of this curry was a bit wired as the richness of the coconut milk made the curry thick but at the same time the sourness of the pineapple made the dish appetizing. These 2 ingredients did not blend well together.
Besides the promotion, below are the ala-carte items that are not listed under the promotion. Kari Ayam Kampung Melayu – RM12.80, the traditional Malay style curry chicken. The ingredients of the curry include curry powder, curry, cloves, garlic and turmeric. The taste of this dish was similar to Kurma Chicken. This curry was thick and very nice.
Kerabu – RM8.80, the ingredients of the kerabu include mango, onion, lime juice and some sugar. It was then topped with chili coated with anchovies. I personally feel that the sourness of this dish had overwhelmed the rest of the taste. I still prefer it to be not too sour.
White rice topped with onion flakes was served together with these dishes.
Overall, some of the dishes here are very nice while some still have rooms for improvement. The parking here is limited, but the environment here is very classic and cozy. The service here is acceptable and the price of the dishes here for certain still consider to be reasonable.
