There are not many restaurants in Malaysia which allow pets in their restaurants, especially those that adhere to the religion and enforcement rules. For pet lovers, it is a very difficult situation as they treat pets as their own children a.k.a “fur kids” and love to bring them around wherever they go. If you have a fur kid and are staying in Penang, fear not! There is a new pet-friendly cafe which allows you to bring your pet(s) to dine in the cafe.
The new cafe is located at Jalan Mount Erskine with the name “Corgi & The Gang”. Apparently this shop is also a pet shop and hotel where you can board your pets here when you are out of town or send your pets for grooming and such. At the same time, this place has also been setup as a cafe for customers to dine and chill while cuddling with the furry friends.
During night time this place will be crowded with people particularly dog lovers. Some are here to play with the dogs while some are bringing their dogs to mingle with other furry friends.
The cute Pomeranian with a pink tutu. She was nice to look at but not that friendly to play with.
The Corgi, supposedly the main character here judging from the name of this cafe but did not get as much attention as the Pomeranians.
One of the gang members, the Schnauzer, was quite popular as he was very friendly and cuddly.
There were other breeds such as poodles and Shih-Tzu’s which were friendly and adorable. If your pets are friendly you can let them mingle with them.
Besides letting the dogs mingling around, with any dine-in receipts from the cafe you can enter a special enclosed area to play with the larger-breed dogs such as golden retriever and husky.
Mushroom Aglio-Olio – RM15.90, the pasta was stir-fried with shimeiji mushrooms, olive oil, slices of shallot and some herbs. The taste of the olio was great and delightful. The mushrooms and the herbs blended well. However, the portion might not be enough for big eaters.
Mango Peach Yogurt Smoothie – RM11.90. A mixture of peach and mango flavored smoothie and topped with fresh cream. This was a very refreshing and appetizing drink and was perfect for hot weather like these days.
I just managed to grab and cuddle with one of the furry friends during my dinner. For dog lovers and those who can’t own pets, this is absolutely a fun place to visit.
Overall, this place is catered for dog lovers. If your main purpose is for the dogs and not the food, this is the perfect place for you. The taste of the food here was average and nothing exciting. The price was on the higher side perhaps to cater for the ‘fees’ to play with the dogs. It is also difficult to find a parking around here.
