It is not easy for young kids to sit down quietly during meal time. As parents it is common to face this situation when dining out. Either you will need a pacifier (phone or tablet) to calm them down or you might forcefully make them quiet by raising your voice while at the same time getting stares from the rest who might think that you are a bad parent.
In order to let the kids run around and yet not to disturb the other diners, a good idea is to have a kids’ play area in a restaurant. One of the very few restaurants which has this great concept is Big Gin Na Family Restaurant.
The location of Big Gin Na Restaurant is at Raja Uda. If you are driving via Jalan Ong Yi How you will soon see Old Town White Coffee Shop on your left. Turn left to Lorong Teras Jaya 2 and drive until the 4th junction on your left and turn into that road. Keep driving and you will see Econsave Hypermarket on your right. At the end of the road you will see Big Gin Na Restaurant just in front of you.
The first floor of the restaurant looks like a regular dining area.
However, there are some tatami-seating style at the side which are suitable for kids.
You will need to spend at least RM25 for 2 adults and 1 kid to be able to dine at the second floor. The price is reasonable as the place is spacious with a huge play area for kids.
The play area is filled with colourful toys and equipment to keep the kids occupied while parents get to enjoy their meal next to the play area.
It couldn’t be stressed enough that the place has all sorts of equipment for the kids. From slide, play tent, crawl-tunnels to reading corner and animal rides.
For sure, you will be spending at least one hour to dine there.
Another highlight is for sure a huge delight for breastfeeding moms. The place is equipped with a breastfeeding and nappy-changing room! The room has two comfortable couches with curtains and a separate corner for changing nappy. It is strictly for ladies only.
Being a child-friendly restaurant, the restaurant prepares a kid’s toilet seat which has been attached to the toilet. The height of the toilet is just right for a toddler’s height. Of course, it is recommended to have parent’s supervision when using the washroom.
It feels like being back to kindergarten when looking at the front cover of the menu.
The Pork Steamboat – RM26.90 comes with a hot pot of soup which is milk based, slices of pork, egg tofu, fish balls, lettuce, bak choy, enoki mushrooms, fish cake and bihun.
This dish is big enough to be shared with your kid. It is a very thoughtful dish for kids as it is non-spicy, healthy (plenty of vegetables provided) and nutritious. There are other soup base such as chicken soup if milk-based is not your type. If you find the taste is a little bit too blend, you can dip with some chili sauce to spice it up.
Thai Style Spicy Chicken Rice – RM14.00 is a more daring dish and is more suitable for adults. However, the chicken is not that spicy and some kids might still be able to enjoy it.
The chicken has been deep-fried and battered with Thai spicy sauce. The dish is complemented with rice, omelette and some vegetables.
Mango + Orange Juice – RM7.00 (left) is a very refreshing drink. They use fresh mango and orange to make this drink. It is a must-try as they do not use cordial to replace the taste of the fruits.
Orange Double Juice – RM5.50 is safe and nutritious for kids. It is a double-orange juice and no water has been added to this drink.
Overall, this is the perfect place to bring your kids for a meal and play. It has an impressive play area to keep the kids occupied. The taste of the food was average but the price was very reasonable. This restaurant is a very child-centric restaurant. There is ample parking space within the restaurant so parking is not a concern at all.
