There are not many places in town that offer English afternoon tea. One of the few places that I had blogged before is Suffolk House Restaurant. Although the food and the ambience of Suffolk House is very satisfactory, the price of food is too costly for average consumers.
Therefore, it is a good to know that besides sophisticated Suffolk House, there is another place that provides good English afternoon tea but with a more affordable price. The name of this place is Annabelle’s Place.
If you are driving from town area towards this place, you will most probably need to use Jalan Mount Erskine and straight onto Jalan Fettes. Follow the Guillemard Reservoir Road and you will see Permai Estate (or Permai 32) on your left. Turn left to Jalan Lembah Permai 1, keep driving for another 150 meters and you will see a row of new shop houses on your right. Just in front of the shop houses the road is Tingkat Lembah Permai 3. Once you are on that road turn left and on your right hand there is a very big green field, Annabelle’s place will be a few shops ahead.
The interior and exterior of Annabelle’s Place are influenced by English/Victorian concept. The cafe is decorated with cottage-like displays and paintings. There was some classical soft music playing on the background and the cafe is facing the green field. Due to the quiet neighbourhood and out of the town area, this cafe is a serene and relaxing place to enjoy your favourite cuppa.
A very delicately-decorated menu.
Classic English Cream Tea for Two – RM19.00, A pot of tea of your choice for 2 pax, served with four freshly baked English scones with clotted cream and strawberry preserved.
The brand of the tea is Ahmad Tea. I believe this brand is imported and is not easily obtained from any hypermarkets here. No doubt the tea is imported, the taste was very mild to me.
The scones were served hot and were very delicious. Personally I don’t prefer preserved strawberry jam as it is sweet and artificial. Instead I love the clotted cream which was not too rich and the taste of the cream was very milky. I couldn’t have enough of the clotted cream but if I were to order extra I need to pay additional for it.
The scones were crunchy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. Besides, it had a lightly sweet touch from the raisins.
Creme Brulee – RM11.00. Like written on the menu, this is another must try. A classic French dessert which is simple yet beautiful.
It seems that preparing this dessert is not as easy as ABC. However, to the owner of Annabelle’s place, Annabelle Teow, it seems like this is an easy task for her to torch the Brulee for the final touch.
In fact, she seemed to enjoy torching the Brulee.
The Creme Brulee tasted very milky as well. It was slight sweet and the top was crunchy after being torched. However, inside it was still very soft and milky. It was a very nice dessert and I would definitely go back for this.
Overall, the place here is very peaceful and quite and there are plentiful of parking space along the road. The taste of the food is mostly up to standard. However, the price of the food is still on the high side even though it is much cheaper compared to Suffolk House. Most probably, is is due to the ingredients and the time taken for the preparation.

I agree, i still think the price is not economical, moreover, I think the ingredients used are not that expensive, espeically the scones and the tea set.
