Penang Chief Minister YAB Tuan Chow Kon Yeow was filled with excitement as he officially launched the Design Village Outlet Mall Solar System on June 25, 2023. This event marked a significant step forward in Penang’s journey towards sustainable development and highlighted the state’s commitment to embracing innovative technologies.
The solar system installed at the Design Village Outlet Mall boasts an impressive capacity of 1.9712 megawatts peak (Mwp). It consists of 3,584 solar panels, with each panel rated at 550 watts peak (Wp), and is supported by 24 inverters. This robust infrastructure ensures the efficient generation and utilization of clean energy to power the mall.
One of the most remarkable aspects of this solar system is its positive impact on the environment. By harnessing the power of the sun, the Design Village Outlet Mall will avoid approximately 1,833 tones of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions each year. To put this into perspective, these emission reductions are equivalent to the effect of planting an astounding 715,469 trees. Such a significant reduction in CO2 emissions demonstrates the mall’s commitment to mitigating climate change and promoting environmental sustainability.
The Design Village Outlet Mall can proudly claim the distinction of being one of the largest outlet malls powered by solar energy. The mall sets a new benchmark for sustainable and environmentally-friendly infrastructure by adopting this renewable energy source. This achievement contributes to reducing the mall’s carbon footprint and is an inspiring example for other businesses and organizations to follow suit.
The official launch of the Design Village Outlet Mall Solar System represents a significant milestone for Penang. It showcases the state’s determination to drive sustainable development and embrace cutting-edge technology. Penang demonstrates its commitment to a cleaner, greener future by investing in renewable energy solutions like solar power.
This momentous occasion signifies a turning point for Penang and sets the stage for further advancements in sustainable practices. With the Design Village Outlet Mall leading the way, it is hoped that other businesses and institutions in Penang will be inspired to follow in their footsteps and contribute to the state’s vision of a sustainable and eco-friendly future.
