It is not an easy task to prepare a great steak, especially without using any sauce. There are not many restaurants in Penang that dare to serve such type of steak except for Emily’s Steakhouse.
Locating at the center of Georgetown, Emily’s Steakhouse specialises in beef steaks. Rather than complementing the steaks with sauce, Emily’s Steakhouse serves their steaks plain with just salt and pepper seasoning.
Emily’s Steakhouse was started in Derby, UK since 2007 and they have been serving tender and juicy steaks in different cuts since then. The parts include Rump, Sirloin, Ribeye or Fillet Steak. Even the cutlery is dedicated for HIM (bigger size) or HER (standard size).
Char-Grilled Fillet Steak (8oz) – RM98. With the preferred doneness “medium-rare”, the plate of steak was served with plenty of greens and chips.
The seasoning was simple with just pepper and salt. The chips were crispy and savory. The tenderness of the steak was nice but in my opinion the doneness was slightly over-cooked. The medium-rare doneness seemed to be more of a medium doneness instead.
For those that still prefer additional gravy, there are a few options available with an additional of RM5: Black Pepper, Rich Creamy Black Pepper and Creamy Mushroom Sauce. The one pictured below was Creamy Mushroom Sauce which I personally think it didn’t go very well with the steak. Moreover, I don’t prefer black pepper flavour so there aren’t many choices to choose from.

Overall, the steaks at Emily’s were of high-quality type of cut and the preparation was simple and straightforward. However the doneness of the steak still has room for improvement. It would be ideal if the selections of homemade sauce are wider as for locals, there’s something incomplete if steaks are served without gravy. The price for fillet is considered on the high side.
