Ghee Hiang is the trusted brand for decades and is famous for their sesame oil and ‘tau sar pneah’ biscuits. Now they have diversified their business into F&B and one of it is known as WW2 Cafe.
There are a few WW2 Cafes around Georgetown. But the one and only that serves a complete menu is no other than the outlet on Beach Street.
WW2 serves delicious and nostalgic local delicacies at very affordable prices. Not to mention one of their highlights is their BOOM drink series.
Kopi BOOM – RM4.00, one of their signature drinks is the Kopi/ Teh BOOM. The reason it is called “boom” is the drink looks like an “explosion” that overflows from the mug. The taste of the milk coffee and milk tea here was good as the taste was creamy and rich. The appearance also looks quite “instagrammable”.
Sesame Chicken Rice – RM7.90, a plate of white rice topped with chicken marinated with Ghee JHian famous sesame oil and soy sauce. The dish is sided with fried bean curd, pickled veggie, half boiled egg, sauteed veggie, generous amount of deep fried shallots and a few slices of chili.
The taste of the sesame oil with the soy sauce was superb and the aromatic scent of the sesame oil filled the entire dining area. The texture of the chicken was juicy and in depth with great flavoring while the pickled veggie tasted appetizing. It was an absolute comfort food.
Sesame Chicken Mee Sua Soup – RM7.90, the mee sua was cooked with starchy gravy with soy sauce base and sesame oil, topped with fried bean curd, half of boiled egg and some greens.
The taste of the gravy was thick and packed with nice sesame aroma. The mee sua also blended very well with the gravy while the taste of the chicken was also very soft and tender. The taste of this dish is a reminiscence of granny’s cooking which is nostalgic and comforting.
Toasted Roti Kahwin (Kaya + Butter) RM4.20 – The toasts were covered with kaya on the first layer and then topped with butter. The taste of the blended kaya was nice when mixed with salty butter.
The menu and prices are shown below:
Overall, this is the place to get nostalgic and comforting food especially with the use of their famous Ghee Hiang sesame oil. The BOOM drinks are also their specialty here which are perfect to quench thirst on a scorching hot weather. Another selling point is the price of the food here is very reasonable. The only drawback is there are not much parking space around this place.
