“I want to eat Thai Food, think of a place for me.” This is a common ‘task’ that is assigned to me each time. For those who are looking for nice and affordable Thai street food, Krung Thep is one of the restaurants that you can visit.
Located at the central of Georgetown, Penang and covered by Unesco Heritage site, this restaurant has just recently opened its doors.
Although this place still very new, it is packed with working class people on weekday lunch time.
Seafood Otak-Otak – RM18.00, this is a nice dish that you must order when you visit this place. The fragrance of the turmeric was so nice and blended well with the fish slices, prawns and squids. It was not overly spicy too.
Thai Traditional Tom Yum – RM19 (Chicken) RM22 (Seafood), this is another great tomyam. The sweetness and the sourish level was just nice while the spiciness level was also moderate. I like this dish as it was packed with all sorts of seafood.
Claypot Woon Sen (Claypot Prawn Vermicelli) – RM12.90, the vermicelli was stir-fried with prawns, egg, carrots and chili, and topped with parsley. The aroma of the wok was great for this dish and the fresh prawns blended well with the gravy of this dish. The only drawback is the pepperish taste of this dish was not enough.
Thai Omelette with Cha Om – RM10, “Cha Om” is one of the tropical varieties of acacia plants. This plant is usually used by Thai to fried with omelette. This is one of the delicacies in Thai’s dishes list. This crunchiness of the outer layer and the fresh flavoring of the Cha Om really made the omelette delicious.
- Thai Milk Tea – RM4.90
- Thai Green Tea – RM4.90
- Thai Red Milk Tea – RM4.90
The original and green milk tea tasted a bit diluted while the taste of red milk tea was similar to our red syrup milk. The sweetness of the red milk tea was too overwhelming for me.
Overall, the taste of the food here was good and the price was reasonable. The only drawback is the limited parking space nearby. Most of the time you need to exercise a little bit (walking) after your meal.
