Le Perigord, Pulau Tikus – Reasonable Set Lunch at RM19.90 Nett

Looking at the increasing number of restaurants and food outlets in Penang, many have come out with various promotions to attract customers. However, the ones which are able to extend their lunch promotions over the weekend are only a handful. Most cafes stop serving set lunches or set dinners on weekends. Either that they will hike up the prices on weekends. Hence dining over the weekend at nice cafes or restaurants will burn a big hole in the pocket. Anyhow, for meal savers like myself I will always look for a place that has nice ambiance, great food and most importantly great savings to my wallet.

Le Perigord, one of the places in my list that serves nice food in great ambiance at attractive prices. The 3-course set lunch which consists of main course + soup of the day + drink is only priced at RM19.90 nett per set.

Apart from serving valuable set lunch, Le Perigord is also a nice place to enjoy wine and dinner.

Soup Of The Day

For that day I was served wild mushroom soup. The thick-flavoring mushroom soup was really appetizing and it was accompanied with some crunchy breadcrumbs.

Main course selection:

  • Salmon Teriyaki – served with butter rice and seasonal vegetables
  • Tonkatsu – free range pork loin, deep fried with panko, served with seasonal vegetables
  • Aglio Olio Pasta – Prawns, chili flakes, olive oil, garlic and onion
  • Chicken and mushroom pasta – linguine, cream sauce and olive oil

Tonkatsu

A free range pork loin battered with panko “Japanese-style breadcrumb traditionally used as a coating for deep-fried” and served in soy sauce and some greens. The tenderness of the meat was slightly chewy perhaps due free range pork was used instead of regular types. The mashed potato on the other hand was quite tasty as it was not too rich and creamy. Other than the pork being deep fried, this is considered a healthy dish.

Salmon Teriyaki

Salmon fillet that was sprinkled with some pepper and salt and served with buttered rice which had been topped with furikake. The same greens as the above dish was served which consisted of romaine lettuce and cherry tomatoes with balsamic vinaigrette . The preparation of the salmon fillet was just nice and it was very fresh. The only drawback is the rice cooked was abit too dry as furikake was used as a topping for the rice and there was no gravy to pair with it.

The delightful iced peach tea which tasted very refreshing with some hint of lemon grass and Jasmine.

Overall, this place serves affordable lunch on weekdays and weekends. The ambiance was cozy and spacious. The drawback is the difficulty in getting a good parking around here.
