Now it couldn’t be easier to enjoy a bowl of Penang Road Famous Teochew Chendol. There are branches in almost every mall in Penang. The latest one being at Queens Hall at 3rd floor of Queensbay Mall.
Penang Road Famous Teochew Chendul started all the way back in the 30’s when those days all the rich and noblemen were willing to stand by the road side just to wait for a bowl of chendul.
The original stall is at Lebuh Keng Kwee which is next to Penang Road and the stall is still operating until now. Simply ask any Penangite or anyone planning to visit Penang, Penang Road Teochew chendul will always in their “to-eat” list.
No doubt, Penang Road Famous Chendul is famous yet they are humble enough to accept any feedback from public. Hence their taste and service is always up to trend.
Ice Kacang
- Original – RM4.20 – the ingredients are made of shaved ice, topped with grass jelly, jelly, canned corn, kidney beans, syrups and chopped peanuts.
The taste is similar to the classic ice kacang found in the olden days.
- Nutmeg Ice Kacang – RM5.90, the same ingredients used for the original ice kacang, except for additional nutmeg floss and nutmeg syrup.
Compared to the original I prefer this nutmeg flavour as it was refreshing and delightful. This is my cup of tea.
Teochew Chendul
- Original – rm4.20, served with shaved ice, pandan-flavoured rice noodles, light coconut milk, sweetened with gula malaka and topped with kidney beans.
This is the famous and must-try dish when a person visits Penang, else you won’t be considered as been to Penang.
- Durian – RM7.40, the ingredients are similar to the original flavour, the only difference is the kidney beans have been replaced with durian syrup.
The flavour of the durian is obvious for this bowl of chendul. The only thing is there is no texture in this bowl of chedul since kidney beans had been taken out. It would be perfect if it had been added with some glutinous rice.
Asam Laksa – RM7.40, The rice noodle covered with thick fish broth cooked with assam slices, topped with shredded fish and some slices of veggie, pineapple, cucumber, onion and mint leaves. Serving together is a spoonful of shrimp paste.
The laksa has the standard taste of laksa and it is great for those who don’t have time to taste the laksa from other stalls. This is the best alternative for you.
Kuang Jiang – rm5.20, A Teochew-style of snack made from fried glutinous cake. It is normally dipped into a slightly salty and spicy sauce. It is also packed with some peanuts and dried shrimp.
The snack has been deep fried until golden brown. The stickiness and the crispiness texture blended very well and the taste was great when served with the chili sauce. The only problem is the oiliness of the snack is too high, if the oiliness can be reduced then it will be perfect.
Chee Cheong Fun – RM5.20, this is a new item in the menu. The rice rolls have been cut into cubes, served with shrimp paste, topped with homemade chili paste and sprinkled with sesame seeds and some fried onion.
It has the nice taste of the authentic chee chong fun, it is both flavourful and delightful.
Penang Rojak – RM6.30, the rojak is made from fresh fruit slices, cuttle fish, mixed with with shrimp paste topped with chopped peanuts and some sesame seeds.
The dish is dedicated to fruit lovers. It has the combination of sweet, sour and spicy.
Penang Curry Mee -RM7.40, the curry mee is served with thin yellow egg noodles and bee hoon, coconut milk curry soup and some homemade chili. It is then topped with string beans, fried tofu, shrimps, clam, cuttle fish and some mint leaves.
The curry mee soup had a strong aroma of coconut milk and the taste was quite strong. As for the chili paste the taste was also very nice too.
Overall, the taste of the food here is nice and it is located at a very convenient place. There are plenty of parking slots available in the mall. Dinning at Queens Hall at a slightly higher price is considered reasonable due to its ambience.

Hi Stef,
Thanks for the invitation too. I am going to TeoChew Chendul at All Seasons Place later. LOL
I paid 15 rgt for a bowl of laksa, it was very bad. The noodles were soggy n overcooked n transparent. Its origi sl flavour is not there. I can buy 3 pkts of laksa from malay hawker n it’s tastes better….very disappointing 😞
