For those who visited my blog before, the name of Hard Rock Hotel is nothing new. You may refer to my previous post for the direction to the hotel.
On Christmas Eve, Hard Rock Hotel Penang is offering a Christmas Eve Rock ‘N’ Roll Buffet Dinner at Starz Diner from 6:30pm to 10:30pm, priced at RM160.00++ per person.
Chef Zul, the Executive Chef will be serving a wide range of buffet selection starting from the sushi bar, salad bar, platters, hot dishes, action station, carving station, deserts and many more.
Below are the dishes for the Christmas and New Year’s Eve menu:
Appetizers
Tuna Fish Nicose with Palm Shoyu Dressing, this dish is slightly fusion with a touch of Japanese flavor. The taste was delightful and appetizing.
Tiger Prawn & Mango & Avacado Salad, the mixture of the salad was very well combined. Most importantly, the prawns were very fresh.
Seared Rare Beef with Roasted Pumpkin & Pesto, the beef was tender and juicy. However, the mixture of pumpkin & pesto sauce wasn’t really appetizing. Instead, if it were to be replaced by “Sunrise” sauce or some lemon juice, it could taste better.
Scallops & Beetroot Salad with Vinaigrette, this dish was remarkable nothing much I could complain about.
Soup
Roasted Pumpkin with Tomato Basil Bread & Grissini-Pesto, the soup was very thick. However, it was very nice when the Tomato Basil Bread and Grissini Pesto were dipped into it.
Main
Roasted Turkey with Giblet Gravy & Cranberry, the turkey had been fed with organic feeds and the meat was very juicy compared to those fed with antibiotic and synthetic food. It was one of the selling points in the buffet spread here. How could Christmas be complete without having some tender and juicy turkey meat?
Sauce Glazed Nuts Bread Stuffing, Sweet Potato & Seasonal Vegetables, the stuffed bread filled with nuts and olive was very nice especially when dipped with the berry sauce.
Hawaiian Crab Cakes with Green Pea Puree & Grilled Pineapple. The crab cakes were made from crab meat from the can but the taste was acceptable.
Pan Seared Salmon with Prawn Capers Salsa, fresh salmon slices with nice prawn capers salsa, this was a very nice dish.
Wok Fried Slipper Lobsters with Dried Chilli Flakes & Garlic, the slipper lobsters were battered and fried till golden brown. The tenderness of the meat was just nice. However, the spiciness level was overwhelming to me.
Desserts
Chocolate & Cherry Yule Logs, the Yule log was made from a mixture of white chocolate, milk chocolate and cherry paste. It was perfectly crafted and had a very Christmas feel.
Apricot & Vanilla Panna Cottas – The fruity and rich panna cotta was a nice ending dessert after a fulfilling meal.
English Fruit Cake with Glazed Fruits, another must-have for Christmas. The fruit cake was topped with preserved cherries in blue and green shades. Personally, I felt that it was too sweet. This is not my cup of tea.
Miniature Pandan Cherry Cheese Cake, the cheese cake was made with pandan and some chopped cherries. On top of each cake it was topped with strawberry and a spoon-like cookie.
Overall, this menu is specially crafted for Christmas and New Year’s Eve period. The food presentation had a strong Christmas feel and it made you feel like you were dining in a hut with snow flakes dropping by the window. For those who do not have the chance to go back home for Christmas or are planning for a Christmas function, check out this place as it is a perfect place to dine and celebrate Christmas.
