Plan B, Ipoh Old Town – The Combination of Nostalgic and Modern

If the initial plan is not going to work, what will be the alternative? When there is desperate time, it’s the call for desperate measurement. This is when Plan B kicks in.

In order to go to Plan B, it is not difficult. First of all, you need to drive to Kinta of Ipoh. Once at Kinta, look for the main road called Jalan Sultan Iskandar, keep driving on the road and you will see Lim Ko Pi coffee shop on your left. At the front junction, turn right to Jalan Sultan Yusuff. Keep driving for another 3 junctions along the road and turn right to Jalan Panglima. keep driving for about 20 meters and you will see Plan B on your left.

Along the walkway to Plan B dining area, there are a lot of small stalls selling varieties of souvenirs and services. This inclusive of a classical salon, nostalgic ice balls from olden days and local souvenirs.

There are also certain spots which allow visitors to take photos of heritage ruins.

The book shelf which is filled with many books and is located along the side walk. Behind this book shelf is the washroom.

The surrounding of the cafe was so cosy and relaxing.

Be it the internal or external decoration, this place gave me the feeling like entering some cafe back in Australia.

A few selection of cakes which looked tempting but never had the chance to try.

If you are interested to know how the toilet looks like, here it is. It was relatively clean.

The Big Turkish Menu – RM89.00, the serving mentioned on the menu is for 2 pax. However, for the Asian petite size like us, the serving is able to cater for 4 pax.

  • Turkish Red Lentil Soup
  • Chopped Salad with Lemon Vinaigrette
  • Lamb Kofta with Tzatziki
  • Beef Kofta with Onion
  • Chicken Shish with Salca Sambal
  • Pan Fried Halibut with Harissa
  • Pilaf Rice
  • Revani

The palif rice was tasty as it had been cooked with basmati rice and dates. It was then sprinkled with some mint leaves. The Beef Kofta with Onion, Chicken Shish with Salca Sambal and Pan Fried Halibut with Harissa were something different. The marination of the beef was nice and the tenderness of the beef was just right. As for the chicken, it was perfectly grilled with aroma. The combination of the sauce with the halibut fish was very nice and well mixed.

As for the dessert of this combination, it was served with Revani which was a moist and delicious semolina cake flavoured with a touch of lemon and sweetened with a simple syrup flavoured with orange zest. Topped with the Revani was vanilla ice cream sprinkled with chopped pistachio and peanuts. The taste of the Revani was sweet but it was a great ending for this meal.

Buttermilk Chicken – RM28, the chicken was battered and deep fried. It was then served with some fries, homemade sauce and some salad.

plan_b_ipoh19

Personally, this is nothing spectacular at all. When our chicken arrived, it was not fully-cooked and we requested to change. They obliged and returned with a new plate for us (even though we know that they just heated up the entire plate and replaced that piece of uncooked chicken for us). The taste was nothing special and it was too dry to my liking with not much butter milk taste. The skin and crust were too thick and the chicken was not fresh at all.

Asian-Style Golden Soft-Shell Crab Spaghetti – RM28, the soft shell crab was battered and deep fried with Indian curry leaves. The spaghetti was pan fried with buttered white sauce.

plan_b_ipoh17

It was something unique which I’ve never tried. The spaghetti was well-cooked and mixed with creamy butter sauce which was not too rich. It was a nice dish with a tad of spiciness.

Cappuccino – RM10

plan_b_ipoh13

The coffee was a blend of sun-dried Brazilian Santos, Ethiopian Sidamo and Sumatran Mandheling 100% Arabica beans. The aroma was thick and the rich taste of the coffee with a hint of cocoa made it a great cup of coffee. Serving together with the coffee was soft candy coated with icing sugar which I find it very unique.

Cafe Latte – RM10

plan_b_ipoh15

The latte was just as good as the blend was roasted and freshly grounded in house.

Another eye-catcher of this place is the big glass bottle filled with drinking water which looks like medicine bottle used in hospitals.

Overall, the ambience here was very attractive and the concept of this place was very unique. The parking space will be limited when it comes to public holidays or weekends. The price of the food here is on the high side due to its ambience and food presentation. As for the taste of the food, the quality and consistency still have room for improvement.
