Oink…oink…show some respect to the pork. It is very hard to find a good pork-serving restaurant in Penang, not to mention specializing in pork. I’ve just realized there are many pork lovers around like me that love to patronize pork specialty restaurants.
One of the upcoming and nice pork specialty restaurants in town is Mr. Pork Western Food. Mr. Pork is one of the few pork restaurants that serve succulent pork and is very specialized in that.
It is not difficult to locate Mr. Pork Western Food. If you are driving via Jalan Tanjung Tokong from Gurney Drive to Fettes Park, you will surely see a super condominium called Fettes Residence on your left when you turn into Jalan Fettes. Just in front of Fettes Residences you will see Mr. Pork Western Food at ground floor.
Mr. Pork Western Food caters for both indoor and outdoor seating. For those who wanted to get a puff, you can always choose to dine outdoor. Otherwise, the indoor dining is very much cozy as it is covered with air-conditioning. The whole indoor seating is able to cater up to 100 pax.
For those who are planning to have private function, private room is also available. The decor of the private room looks like a Chinese Wedding reception to me.
Oink…. Oink…. the porky menu. Mr. Pork does not only serve dine-in customers, they provide delivery service as well. However, currently they only deliver to Tanjung Tokong and Tanjung Bungah area only. The delivery must be of minimum order RM30 and above.
Oxtail Soup – RM8.90, everyday there will be various kinds of soup of the day. For this round I tried out the Oxtail Soup.
The Oxtail soup was boiled with slices of oxtails, mixed herbs, some pepper, celery and served together with slices of garlic bread.
The oxtail had been boiled until soft and tender and the taste of the soup was not too salty yet it was packed with mixed herbs flavour. Serving the oxtail soup together with garlic bread is a perfect combo. However, the garlic bread was served slightly different. It had been sprinkled with a touch of sugar on top. To me it is fine, but for some food lovers, this might not be a good option.
Cheese Mussels – RM15.90, the mussels were covered with cheese and then baked to perfection. Served together with this dish was some salad.
The rich and creamy mozzarella cheese with a slight of saltiness gave a boost to the mussels. It tasted very nice when served hot.
Mr. Pork Special – RM19.90, this dish was made up of deep fried marinated pork chop, sausage, potato wedges, sweet corn, and salad.
The pork chop was marinated with salt and pepper, coated with a thin layer of batter and deep fried until golden and crispy. The crispiness of its batter and the tenderness of the meat made a perfect combo. Served together with this dish were some potato wedges which had been topped with thousand island sauce. The sides of this dish were sweet corn and salad.
Mr. Pork Fried Rice – RM7.90, the rice was mixed together with some chopped long beans, luncheon meat cubes and chicken meat slices. The rice was then topped with a sunny side up.
For those who do not prefer western food, you can always order the oriental food here. One of the signatures here is the Mr. Pork fried rice. The fried rice was simple but satisfying.
Grilled Pork Chop – RM10.90, the pork chop was well marinated with some salt and pepper and grilled until tender. The pork chop was served with homemade barbecue sauce which contained some mixed herbs, lemongrass, some carrot cubes, pineapple cubes and onion slices.
The homemade barbecue sauce really brought out the flavor of the pork chop. However for me, the taste of the meat was a bit on the salty side. If the saltiness can be reduced a bit it will a perfecto!
Mr Pork Float – RM5.90, the soda had been added with some red rose syrup and topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
This drink is a great option on a hot and sunny afternoon.
Banana Berry Shake – RM8.90, the banana had been added with some strawberries and then blended together with fresh milk.
This drink was very filling as the texture was thick but smooth. For me, I can’t go for other food after having this drink.
Overall, this place is family-friendly. Delivery service is available for those who stay near Tanjung Tokong and Tanjung Bungah. However the delivery service needs a minimum order of RM30 and above. For those who lunch here from 12pm – 3pm, there will be 20% discount given as there is no set lunch available. The food tasted good and the ambiance was nice. The only drawback is the limited parking lots available around the restaurant.
