Hompton By The Beach Penang is one of the latest hotels in the northern part of Penang island. It has a contemporary design with 240-rooms and 2 restaurant outlets in pre-opening stage. The hotel is located along the pristine Tanjung Tokong Beach, Penang and faces the Andaman Sea. All rooms are located from the 12th to the 32nd floor, giving guests uninterrupted views of the azure sea. The Deluxe Seaview Rooms, The Premium Suites and the Family Two-Bedroom Suites offer a relaxing retreat from the rigors of modern life, making it suitable for business trips and leisure.
The highlights of the hotel include the picturesque infinity pool, the fitness centre and steam room. There is a daily complimentary shuttle to KOMTAR, George Town and also to nearby Batu Feringgi Beach. For functions, Hompton Hall can accommodate up to 100 persons while Home 1 and Home 2 function rooms has a capacity of 50 persons each. Spice Garden is a non-smoking all-day dining outlet open for buffet breakfast, ala-carte dining and for weekly buffets. Elementos Tapas & Lounge offers al-fresco dining and is the go-to place for delicious tapas, drinks and it also features main courses which represent the five fengshui elements – water, fire, wood, metal and earth. You may enjoy cocktails and tapas at Elementos with an astounding beach view as the backdrop.
Christmas Day Buffet Lunch, Wednesday, 25 December 2019, Spice Garden

The delectable spread includes a salad bar of cherry tomatoes, julienne of carrots, capsicum. beetroot slices, red beans, corn kernels, green beans, alfalfa sprouts, Japanese cucumber, onion rings, Enoki mushrooms and purple cabbage. Fresh greens include romaine lettuce, radicchio, lollo rosso, frisee and butter head. Cold dishes include macaroni salad, prawn tartare on corn nachos and black lump fish caviar, rye bread salmon with guacamole and sour cream topped with chives and assorted finger sandwiches.
Entrée dishes include butcher platter on ice with a medley of chicken terrine, chicken salami and smoked duck breast, vegetable sticks with guacamole dip, smoked fish platter on ice with smoked salmon, tuna and smoked mackerel served with a side of horseradish cream plus a cheese platter with mixed nuts and dried fruits.
The soup station includes Cream Of Prawn Bisque Soup, Chicken Herbal Soup served with cheese twists, a bread board and whole bread loaves.
The carving station includes roasted turkey with Christmas stuffing of roasted baby potatoes, roasted vegetables (including Brussel sprouts, trust tomatoes, pumpkin and red baby radish). The side sauces include Jus of Turkey, Cranberry sauce, Black Pepper sauce and Mint sauce.
There will also be action stations of Hokkien Prawn Noodles, seafood porridge and roasted chicken rice. Another dessert action stall includes waffles with condiments of chocolate sauce, strawberry sauce, chocolate chips, rainbow rice sprinkles and raisins. Another dessert action stall is ice kacang plus an ice cream station with assorted marshmallows and dried fruit.
Hot dishes will include deep fried potatoes with herbs, grilled tandoori sausages with fruity glaze, ayam masak merah, steamed sui mai/har kao, spaghetti with chicken Bolognese sauce, kaya pancake, grilled mini steaks in pepper sauce, mixed vegetables with Japanese beancurd, fried tom yam beehoon and herb and raisin buttered rice.
Dessert includes tropical fresh fruit platter with preserved plum powder, strawberries, green and red grapes, watermelon, honeydew, papaya, green and red apples, raspberries, blueberries, water guava and jack fruit, assorted marshmallows and dried fruits. There will also be hot chocolate pudding, Christmas pudding, Christmas log cake, Christmas spiced fruit cake, tiramisu in glass, assorted Christmas cookies including gingerbread man cookies, New York cheese cake, red velvet cake, candy meringue pie, apple pie with vanilla sauce, fruit tartlets, stolen shortbread, panna cotta, chocolate mousse puff plus coffee and tea.
Overall, the food at the buffet spread was good. There is a multi-storey car park available at Hompton Hotel. The attraction is the dining area at Spice Garden is located on the top floor of the hotel which gives diners the best view of the Andaman Sea and our lovely Penang island. The only drawback is the varieties and options of the buffet are not that many.
